Those who are looking for an answer to the question «How to raise pickups on a guitar?» often ask the following questions:

🔥 Are guitar pickups magnetic?

At NO POINT does the author of the video claim that you shouldn't be using a screwdriver with a magnetic tip close to a guitar pickup. Watch it again and listen more carefully: he claims that using STRONG MAGNETS DIRECTLY ONTO THE PICKUPS (to remove metal stuff from them) is a risk. He does'nt say anything about magnetic screwdrivers.

🔥 Can you replace guitar pickups with different pickups?

August 7, 2019. Changing your guitar’s pickups is an easy way to get a better tone and create an instrument more suited to your needs. While you can pay somebody to replace your guitar’s pickups, it’s a good skill to learn. If you have a soldering iron, you might be surprised with how easy a job this is.

🔥 Can guitar pickups go bad?

Poor maintenance can cause corrosion, copper wires can get damaged and break, switches can worn out etc. Also, humbuckers can simply go bad because they tend to demagnetize over years… Humbuckers are basically poles that attract the nickel and steel in the strings of a guitar.

Published Sep 02, 2018 by Dave Hunter. Tips and How-To's. "Crank 'em high and let 'em fry" might sum up some players' attitudes toward pickup height adjustment. But there's a lot more to it than that, and many guitarists will just as often prefer the sound of their electric guitars with the pickups lowered slightly, rather than raised higher.

The best way to find the best spot for pickups is to: Set the desired distance at the bridge and balance the neck and/or middle pickups to volume; Fret the low E at the first fret; Measure the distance between the bottom of the string to the top of the bridge pickup's pole piece (within 1/64th of an inch). Repeat the same process for the high E string

Will Kelly, from the Hard Knocks Guitar Shop, shows how to properly set the heights of electric guitar pickups.

The further you move the pickup away from the strings the quieter the output will be. The further you move the pickup away from the strings the less focused the tone will get (it's picking up a broader area of string movement). And so, as you can see, the idea of adjusting a pickup to get both more output AND a more bass just ain't gonna happen.

Each pickup is mounted onto the pickguard with a screw and spring on each side of the pickup. The screw head goes through the pickguard, passes through a spring, and threads into the ear of the pickup. Tightening the screw raises the height of the pickup, while loosening the screw will lower it into the body.

By lowering the pickup and raising the pole-pieces you can raise the output of the pickup without raising the low end too much. One trick that works really well for a bridge pickup is raising the three-bass side pole-pieces, keeping the treble side flush with with the bobbin, and raising the treble side a fraction to match the volume across the strings.

TV Jones recommends 5/32 inches (4mm) between the top of the cover and the bottom of the E strings on the bridge pickup. For the neck, it’s between 3/16 inches (4.7mm) and 7/32 inches (5.55mm) on the bass side of the neck and 3/16 inches (4.7mm) on the treble side.

Use 1/2 turns and count the number of turns made as you go, that way you can always return to where you started. Adjusting your pickups and then re-EQ ing your amp can open up whole new worlds of tone.
