The Aurora Plastics Corporation introduced the A/FX (Aurora Factory Experimentals, later simply "AFX") line of slot cars, slot car track sets, and related accessories in 1971. The AFX brand continued production until the company was forced into receivership in 1983.

The Tomy track is also backed by a vendor (RaceMasters) who is still in business and can support you with any issues that arise. I like giving my money to people who still actively invest and participate in the hobby in a very big way like RaceMasters does. They are one of us and I appreciate that a great deal.
You are correct that 1/32 scale is more popular but the HO scale still has a lot of cool products. Auto World is bringing out new race sets, track and cars. We have recently expanded into HO and are carrying AFX and Auto World products. I also have a sentimental attraction as I started out in slots with an AFX set in the 1970's.
Scale Auto was responsible for saving the Aurora AFX brand in the late 1990's as Gary put up the money and secured the North American selling rights so AFX could see the light of another day. This new venture, started by Gary along with Jim Russell (of Russkit fame), became today's Racemasters company.
