We contested our first Formula 1 race in 1966 and won our first F1 grand prix in Belgium in 1968. 57 years later, we’ve won 182 Formula 1 grands prix and 20 world championships, with champion drivers Emerson Fittipaldi, James Hunt, Niki Lauda, Alain Prost, Ayrton Senna, Mika Hakkinen and Lewis Hamilton.

Although Bruce McLaren was an energetic and frequent competitor in Non-Championship Formula 1 races from 1959 to 1965, during his tenure as Formula 1 team leader for the factory Cooper squad, it was not until 1967 that his then one-year-old McLaren Formula 1 team made an official appearance in one of the UK's domestic non-championship events, the Race of Champions at Brands Hatch.

What actually happened. Rain at lunchtime on Sunday left the track wet – but drying rapidly as the start approached. Teams have the choice of starting on Inters or Wets and, given the conditions, this was something all teams had to agonise over, as the track would dry between the laps to grid and the formation lap.
